Modern Ireland
Michael Collins

The Wind that Shakes the Barley
In 1920, Irish workers form guerrilla armies to face the
ruthless "Black and Tan" squads being sent from Britain to block Ireland's bid
for independence. Driven by a love of country, Damien (Cillian Murphy,
Breakfast on Pluto and 28 Days Later) joins his brother (Padraic
Delaney) in the fight for freedom. Their tactics bring the British to the
breaking point and a treaty is signed, but civil war soon erupts and the
fighters find themselves pitted against one another. Directed by Ken Loach
(Bread and Roses, Riff-Raff). Winner of the Palme d'Or at the 2006 Cannes
Film Festival.
